Entry Rules
Amendment to Constitution (2001)
Membership of the Society is open to residents of Currie, Balerno, Glenbrook, Hermiston, Blinkbonny, Juniper Green and Baberton Mains as indicated by the graphic on Show Schedules, and will also be open to those non residents outwith these areas who are members of Established Organisations within those areas, i.e. Schools, Clubs, Societies etc.
SHOW RULES
1. All articles for competition in the Horticultural Section must be grown by the competitors themselves except in the Floral Art Section and must be under their care for not less than two months prior to the Show. The Committee have the power to visit the gardens of intending competitors prior to the Show and reserve the right to refuse any Entry or Award
2. Persons may not enter any sections of the Show where their professional skills are involved.
3. Competitors are not allowed to enter more than one lot for any single prize. All entries must be made to the Show Secretary on the official entry form contained in the Schedule along with the appropriate entry fee at least three days before the Show. Late entries cannot be accepted.
4. Purchasing this Schedule (£2) constitutes membership and any family member may compete provided the appropriate entry fee is paid. School children compete free of charge.
5. In the Industrial Section every article competed with must be the actual handiwork of the Competitor. Competitors must not compete with articles previously awarded a prize at the Currie Parish Horticultural and Industrial Society Show.
6. Any Competitor known to compete falsely shall forfeit all prizes gained
7. All articles for competition must be staged between 7pm and 9pm on the evening prior to the Show or between 8am and 10am on the morning of the Show. Judging will take place between 10am and 12 noon and competitors are not allowed in the hall during this time, unless with the consent of the Committee.
8. All exhibits shall be shown in official vases except where otherwise stated.
9. Exhibitors’ Cards will be provided by the Society. Exhibitors must complete all sections of the card. Card should be folded so that competitor’s name is hidden until after the judging. The card should be attached to their entry.
10. Experienced persons shall be appointed as Judges whose decision as to merit shall be final.
11. Where Judges award two equal First Prizes the sum offered for 1st and 2nd Prizes will be equally divided between the two competitors.
12. Judges to cut open any fruit or vegetable at their discretion
13. A sum of 50p must be lodged with the Show Secretary before any protest can be considered by the Committee. Any protests must be made in writing by 3pm on the day of the Show.
14. No exhibit to be removed before the close of the Show which will be open from 1.30pm until 4pm on last Saturday in August. Competitors must remove all their own packing at close of Show.
15. Every care will be taken of Exhibits but the Committee shall not be responsible for the loss of, or damage to, any article staged.
16. Successful Competitors will receive their prizes at the Annual General Meeting of the Society.
17. All trophies presented at the Show to be returned before the Show closes so that the trophies can be engraved and they will then be delivered to each respective winner.
18. THE WINNERS OF TROPHIES SHALL RETURN THEIR TROPHY TO THE SOCIETY NO LATER THAN THE MONDAY BEFORE THE SHOW.
Note: The Society will run a sales table on the day of the Show and would appreciate donations of any articles or goods by Exhibitors to help raise funds for the Society.

Society Best Vase Competition Rules
1. The Best Vase class is for a vase of mixed flowering stems containing a total of between 5 and 10 stems, taken from a minimum of two different kinds of plants. Please note that it is two different KINDS of plants; two varieties of the same plant are NOT two kinds.
2. The display will be judged out of a total of 35 points, split into: 25 points for the colour, form, condition, quality and freshness of the flowers on display, and 10 marks for the overall presentation and effect of the plants in the vase. The vase will be viewed from all directions. Judging of the flowers should be to normal Royal Horticultural Society Rules.
3. Stems used in the display must be showing flowers only; no seed heads or berries are allowed.
4. Use Society Vase - any size.
5. No accessories whatsoever - such as bows and additional foliage - will be allowed. Foliage, which is growing naturally from the flowering stem, and still attached to that stem, will be allowed. Packing material - including floral foam, to keep the stems in place, is allowed.
